If someone would have tackled one of these massive idiots or bopped them in the head with something could they be charged? I'm honestly surprised no one did. You can't pull a stunt like this in 2014. I know it's "free speech" but this could easily be perceived as a threat at least in my mind

Good intentions, bad execution. Like, c'mon. You can run into a classroom wearing a mask and shout at people. Not since Columbine.
Fire in a theater argument if you want to debate free speech.

No court would rule against someone who tackled one of them. Running at someone when you have a mask on is a big no-no.

Considering recent history, I doubr that anybody who assaulted one of these jackasses would be charged. As for the jackasses themselves, I hope they get expelled.

Yup. Speech intended to incite panic, if you want to be specific.

Well now I almost wish some neckbeard tried that while I was in college.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
This lawyer's quick and dirty analysis: 1) the first amendment protects you from government interference with speech; 2) its application in an academic environment is different, and a bit more limited; 3) if someone tackled them, it would have to be reasonable to perceive a threat; 4) reasonableness is situational - if there had been a shooting at that school 3 months earlier, it's more reasonable than if the guy was carrying a Super Soaker.

If you lay a beating on somebody there's a good chance you'd face assault charges, maybe serious ones if you really let it rip.
Post-Virginia Tech I hope these guys spend some time in county jail. Just enough to cool them off.
If somebody dropped them to the ground and there was no bomb or threat it would be "WHY DID YOU DO THAT, HERE HAVE SOME CHARGES"
If somebody didn't drop them and there WAS a bomb or threat, it would be "WHY DIDN'T YOU DO SOMETHING"
There's a way to safely protest and I do not believe this is it.

"We are coming for you."
"... will be dealt with accordingly."
There are limits to the 1st amendment and communicating a threat is one of them. While these threats are vague, they are open-ended enough that if a person tackled one of these Guy Fawkes mask-wearing clowns, they could easily make the claim that they were in fear of bodily harm. If I were there I'd take the risk.

I think these schmucks were lucky they didn't pull this on a campus that allows people to carry. I have to imagine someone would have been seriously compelled to draw if they were in that lecture hall.
